I love dogs (and I like people pretty well too). Dogs have been my companions all of my life. According to my baby book, my first words were "Bow Wow". A big part of the enjoyment I get with my dogs is spoiling them. However, I know for everyoneıs (including the dogıs) health, safety, and happiness, dogs need training.
I also love helping families have great family dogs. I teach owners techniques that work for their family and for their dog, overcoming the obstacles defeating reaching their goal of a well-mannered, obedient dog who everyone loves - family, friends, and neighbors.
I have learned many training techniques since 1985 when I started training dogs and their families. No family and no dog is exactly alike. Every family has specific needs to itself. So when I consult with a family, I listen to you and we work out the best course of action for your lifestyle and goals. Then I teach the family the techniques that will work the most effectively and efficiently.
I believe the easiest and most humane way to train your dog is to prevent it from learning bad habits, rewarding good behaviors, and setting limits. I use reward and correction based training.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
- From 1986 - 1990, I lived and worked at a dog-training kennel. Pet dogs were boarded for both behavior and obedience training.
- I hold two California Teaching Credentials (Multiple and Single subject K-12).
- I worked for Canine Companions for Independence in Santa Rosa for 3 years where I evaluated dogs to determine their potential as breeding stock, wrote the breeder caretakerıs manual, developed the puppy test given to all 7 week old pups, and helped write the CCI Puppy Raiser Manual.
- Since I opened Best Friends Dog Training in Sonoma County in 1991, I have worked with thousands of dogs and their families helping them achieve their goal of a great family dog. References by previous clients are available upon request.
- In 2004, The Humane Society of Sonoma County hired me to develop their dog training program. Working for the Humane Society allows me to continue the work of Best Friends and allows me to train staff and volunteers on proper training for our sheltered dogs.
